In other NBC news, The Chopping Block was just pulled. NBC's poor performance this season (Chopping Block, Superstars of Dance, Mamma's Boys, Life, Kings, Lipstick Jungle, Knight Rider, My Own Worst Enemy, Kath & Kim... god, so many failures... plus Friday Night Lights but that's pretty much contingent on DirecTV putting up some more money) may just save Chuck in the wake of the Leno 10pm stripping.

30 Suck
If it weren't for the muppets, Adam West, and Liz's commercial, tonight's episode of 30 Rock would've been entirely unwatchable (I know that those three things sound like a lot, but it amounted to all of about 30 seconds). Ugh. What a shadow of its former self this show has become (and even at it's peak, the show was very hit-or-miss... just hitting a lot more often...)

The Shonda Night
Overnights are in for Grey's Anatomy / Private Practice's premiere as lead-in/lead-out.
PP kept 2/3 of GA's ratings. Just like the first repeat did back in December. Which, if it holds true across all demos (like the repeat did), will result in "pretty decent" ratings for the ABC relocation.
Marc Berman's PI Newsletter reminds that this isn't up against original CBS programs... but it WAS on against the BCS Championship Game. Which is much stronger competition than a new CSI and a new Eleventh Hour, even if the football audience is heavily male skewing (CSI/11H are much more male skewing than the ABC shows, too).

So, fast nationals are in and while the 2/3 thing holds approximately true... it's still not positive news because, like Desperate Housewives on Sunday, the December/holiday hiatus hurt GA and it came back below 14 million and at a 5.1 in the demo. Leaving PP at 9 million and a 3.3.

Oh, and 30 Rock (which was new last night along with the rest of the NBC lineup except for The Office) was the highest rated new sitcom on NBC's schedule but the ratings were bad. Why would the Peacock air most of its gender-even/male-skewing comedies (a) against the CBS Championship, and (b) without the flagship show? It makes no sense. Just leave them all in repeats!
Lordy, the only intelligent people at the Big Three seem to be at CBS these days... CBS aired all repeats!

30 Roxor
So, next week's season premiere of 30 Rock is now streaming on NBC.com. Go watch! It's not the height of the show's hilarity (we've all heard the 11/6 episode with Oprah - wait, you heard she's guesting on the show, right? no? really? - is an absolute riot). But it is funny. Uneven, but funny. And so much fun.
The great thing about this show, and let's face it, all sitcoms, is repeatability. I don't watch episodes of Grey's Anatomy more than once. Ever. But I'm still watching repeats of South Park, The Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy. I've sat through a Big Bang Theory repeat and guffawed along and the better episodes of How I Met Your Mother often get multiple plays.
Anyway, my point is that I've watched episodes of 30 Rock multiple times... and despite having seen the premiere already, will be more than willing to laugh along with the jokes again (and catch new ones) when it premieres next week.
And good call by Broadway Video and Tina Fey managing to get her onto this week's SNL: Weekend Update Thursday.
Be the dubs... Grey's was fun tonight! Straight-forward, moderately interesting surgical case reflecting on the doctors' lives. Remember the days when this was the norm, and you cared more for the characters?

Comedy Night Done Right
So I don't watch Earl. But I do watch the other three comedies on NBC Thursdays. So let's get laughing, shall we!?
30 Rock. We left this show with what was either an inspired or insipid musical number in "Episode 210" (snerk). And we open on... MILF ISLAND. FRAK YES. I love that Frank's hat just says "or". "Erection Cove". "How long is this gonna take? Our pizzas are downstairs and the tribunal is about to make one of the last four MILFs hang up her bikini top". The MILF Island elimination phrase is "We no longer want to hit that". How did Pete get his shirt off? Not enjoying his runner... it's kinda hackneyed. It better have pay off! Hahah, Kenneth the Page hiding behind a cutout of Wolf from American Gladiators. Where is Jenna? "Chocolate chocolate chocolate, ack!" "The truth will come out. Like my cousin Stephen after he went to music college, it will come out." Brit Ishman.
A "B-" episode. Not the worst of 30 Rock, but far, far, far from the best.
The Office. My talking heads are back! Oh, dear, there's a video camera in Michael and Jan's bedroom. Tuna!!!!! Andy has a coat, a sweater wrapped around his neck, a shirt, and a turtleneck on. Something about this episode is off... I kinda wish the show came back with an episode that took place AT THE OFFICE. "You have no idea the physical toll that three vasectomies have on a person!" THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!
A "C". Really not that funny. Very disappointing. Awkward situation ≠ definitely hilarious.
Scrubs. It's late. If there's anything really amazing, I'll post tomorrow.

Thursday Night TV
30 Rock: Eh. 30 Rock, like most comedies, really needs writers on set to do punch-ups. The underlying story in this episode was there, but the things that really make the show sparkle weren't. Awkward musical number at the end...
Ugly Betty: Fun, but a little on the nose even by this series' standard. Why was Hilda at the Fashion Week show this year? School chaperone? The Amanda/psychic plotline was a hoot, though. Gotta love me some Becki Newton. And I wonder if Marc stroking Christina with the mannequin's arm (to comfort her, ostensibly) was a shout out to Pushing Daisies. Probably... right? Also, Justin is taller than Betty now.
Grey's Anatomy: Wait, this episode was about faith? Oh. Totally missed that...I honestly expected to care more about this episode. I think I've really reached the point in my relationship with Grey's where I really want it to be fun and entertaining again, but the show seems to think I want lots of melodrama and anvil-y metaphors. There's nothing new coming out of this show, it's running on fumes. I want the interesting patients and different facets of their lives that reflect various doctors lives in different ways. I want for the show, when it does go for grand, soap-operatic strokes, to do it in surprising ways and to surprising results (though I do understand that seeing George and Callie trying to make it work is too much repetition of the Derek/Addison/Meredith plot). Hopefully when the strike is over, the show will figure itself out. Now that Meredith seems to have, finally and at long last, broken things off with Derek (didn't she do that at the end of last season?????) maybe she'll have an appreciable, understandable, non-wishy-washy story that will help carry the rest of the characters' arcs... or at least give us a seasonal theme (that isn't George's "I want to be that guy again"). Although I'm intrigued by Callie/Hahn. Because despite Hahn telling McSteamy that if they didn't work together, they'd probably "y'know"... I, and I think everyone else, have my lesdar on high alert.
Big Shots: So the secret is out... Charisma Carpenter is Janelle, Brody's wife from hell. Thoughts?
Make Me A Supermodel: I'm not sure how I feel about the show, as far as whether I'm hooker or not... but DAMN that must be a bitch to produce. Filming and editing within the week of airing? Certainly more impressive than what America's Next Top Model does (filmed months in advance... and also, I think, much harder than slapping together a live show because of the time crunch... oh, those poor non-union story editor slaves). Still, that "throw a piece of yourself (aka your clothing) into the fire... and by the way I'm encouraging you to basically strip" thing reeked of fraternity hazing / initiation ritual. I really dig the weekly measurement taking thing. One, because I want to know what some of the males' measurements are (er, for comparison's sake...) and two because I think the show is actually going to make a point about being healthy (for instance, the photographer in the first shoot mentioned how Jacki was bone-y... yeah, she was!) I wonder if they'll post the measurements online. Not sure how I feel about the voting process... but that could be because I'm on the West Coast which means if I deigned to vote for anyone, I would have to watch the show within an hour of its first airing. I suppose we'll find out on next week's episode why they need it to be done so quickly (my guess is they wake the person up early in the morning and that person needs to leave ASAP... though at the same time I wonder if the show is going to spend any time with the models between when an episode finishes and when the results are announced... the production of this show is what really intrigues me).
